Cleft Lip and Palate

Cleft lip and cleft palate are congenital developmental conditions seen in the upper lip, the palate, or both; they occur because facial structures do not fully fuse during development in the womb. Occurring on average in one in a thousand births, they can be corrected successfully with appropriate follow-up and treatment.
