Hair transplantation is a procedure where hair follicle units (hair grafts) containing 1, 2, or 3 hair roots are taken from the hairy skin areas on the back and sides of the head, which are dense in hair and genetically resistant to shedding, and transplanted to the areas where hair loss occurs.
Hair transplantation is a surgical operation and should be approached with seriousness. It should be performed by expert individuals under the supervision of a doctor in a hospital environment.
Hair transplantation is performed using two methods:
FUE Method: The most recent hair technique, and applied in 99% of cases, is follicular unit extraction (FUE), which allows us to achieve natural results both when extracting and implanting hair.
Unlike the FUT method, in this method, follicular units (grafts) are individually extracted directly from the root level of the skin using 0.6-0.7 punches and with the help of a micro motor.
The most significant difference from the other method is that there is no scar formation in the nape area and the healing process is faster. Within a week, the tiny holes where the follicles were taken from close without leaving any marks, and the procedure remains unnoticeable. There is no swelling or pain.
Multiple sessions can be performed with the FUE method. Depending on the individual's needs, 2000-5000 grafts, corresponding to 5000-12000 hair follicles, can be extracted and implanted in each session.
In cases where there are not enough follicles in the nape area, follicular units can be taken from areas such as the back, chest, and beard and transferred to the bald area.
Steps:
Step 1: Your photos are taken, your hair is trimmed to a number one, and prepared for local anesthesia.
Step 2: Hair roots (grafts) are taken from the nape area, which is genetically coded not to shed, using specially developed microsurgical 0.6-0.7 punches and stored in special solutions and refrigerated. The experience of the person using the micro motor is also crucial, as it is important to extract the hair roots symmetrically and densely without breaking them.
Step 3: Drawing the hairline is one of the most important factors demonstrating quality and natural hair transplantation. When creating the hairline, factors such as the person's baldness, the amount of grafts taken from the donor area, the person's age, and expectations should be considered. After determining the hairline, local anesthesia is applied.
Step 4: Opening the channels where the hair roots will be placed. The angles and directions of the micro incisions where the hair roots will be placed should be in the direction of the existing hair before shedding to ensure nourishment of the hair roots. The micro incisions where the hair roots will be placed should be in the same diameter as the grafts to allow for proper nourishment.
Step 5: Placing the extracted hair roots into the opened channels one by one without damaging the grafts (without breaking or splitting) during implantation.
Step 6: After the implanted area is cleaned with serum, the area where the grafts were taken is bandaged and closed for one day. Then, you will be instructed on what to do next. You can go home with your newly transplanted hair.
Conditions Needed for Hair Transplantation
For hair transplantation to be possible, the hair in the donor area from which the hair roots are taken must be healthy and dense enough. Factors such as hair color, texture, whether the hair is curly or straight, can affect the outcome of the transplantation.
To Whom Can It Be Done?
- Those with male pattern baldness
- Those with hair loss due to burns, surgical scars
- Those with congenital local hair loss
- Those with localized hair loss due to any infection
- Those experiencing hair loss due to excessive pulling (commonly seen in women who frequently tie their hair)
- Those who have lost hair due to psychological disorders where the hair is constantly pulled and played with, known as trichotillomania

Aftercare and Recovery Process of Hair Transplantation
Your doctor will provide details about the aftercare and recovery process following the hair transplant operation. Generally, there is no pain felt after the operation. Since there are no incisions, you can return to normal life within one day. It is advised to avoid alcohol and smoking for five days after the procedure. There is a hair washing process that starts on the third day after the procedure and lasts for five days. Detailed information is provided on this subject.
Due to reduced oxygen exchange, the transplanted hair follicles shed existing hair strands within 3-4 weeks. This is an expected development. Since the hair follicles are intact, new hair strands are produced within approximately 12-14 weeks, and these hair strands grow to an average of 1 cm.
For up to six months after hair transplantation, it is advisable not to use a shaver on the transplanted area. Within the first month after the procedure, it is important to avoid strenuous physical activities, lifting heavy objects from the ground, and bending over. For two weeks, avoid saunas, exposure to intense sunlight, tanning beds, and wearing motorcycle helmets. You can dye your hair two months after the operation.
It is necessary to wait 8-12 months to evaluate the result of the operation.
